East Lizard Dial-a-Ride
The need for a transport service for the East Lizard area was identified by the Community Wellbeing Group of South Kerrier Alliance. The group worked on the scheme’s development for 12 months prior to its launch in April 2008. The dial-a-ride service will be operated by West Cornwall Community Wheels, a successful community transport organisation based in Hayle, which already has a strong track record of providing transport in parts of rural Penwith and Kerrier.
East Lizard Dial-a-Ride provides better links into Helston for both shoppers and residents wishing to get to the doctor’s or hospital. The scheme covers the parishes of St Keverne, Mawgan-in-Meneage, St Martin, Manaccan and St Anthony, and provides a new transport service for people in the Helston area. The service operates two days a week, on Monday and Friday. It provides the opportunity for two return trips each day into Helston, with drop-off points around the town. The dial-a-ride also serves Coverack Bridges and Lowertown on Mondays, and provides a hospital link service for Helston residents on Fridays.
The scheme has received funding from Cornwall County Council, Kerrier District Council and the Cornwall Local Area Agreement, and has also been supported through the West Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Rural Transport Partnership.
