Community Facilities Co-ordinator

This project was identified as a priority Flagship Project by the South Kerrier Alliance and was developed in consultation with an extensive range of stakeholders and through public meetings, focus groups and consultation days.

The community plan outlines the need for a strategic co-ordination of community facilities - of their management, and of support services available to them.  There is currently little provision for supporting community buildings in this rurally isolated area and as a result many facilities and their management committees are tired and are struggling to remain sustainable, which in turn puts essential community services and activities at risk.

This project will employ a Community Facilities Manager for South Kerrier.  Based at a vibrant and busy community centre, this manager will facilitate the co-ordination of key services, communication networks and information systems to enable all the community facilities in the area to thrive.  The manager will work closely and in partnership with other facilities in providing services to the community, sharing best practice and developing links with funders, key service providers, agencies and users.

Examples of efficiency savings and strategic projects include: Volunteer training; Policy introduction and updating; CRB Checking; Risk Assessments; Insurance; Funding Advice, Guidance and assistance; Integrated Booking Systems; Co-ordinated bookings and project development.

This project is seen as an opportunity to develop needs led solutions to sustainability issues facing community facilities and associated voluntary/community sector groups and in doing so introduce new management solutions and efficiency savings through the network.
