South Kerrier Alliance Community Interest Company (SKACIC)
SKACIC was formed in April 2008. It evolved from the Helston Town Forum which, in 2001, agreed to be one of the pilot towns in the Market and Coastal Towns Initiative. This initiative appointed consultants to bring together broad community partnerships and develop full community plans for towns and their surrounding areas.In Helston, a consultant was appointed in 2004. A Regeneration Fair was held which agreed to set up Theme Groups and endorsed the reconstitution of the Forum into the South Kerrier Alliance. Since that time the work of the Alliance has been co-ordinated by a steering group consisting of community representatives, local councillors and representative from local agencies. The community plan, Brighter Future: Working together for South Kerrier, was published in 2006.
SKACIC have now developed Delivery Groups to take forward actions and projects from the plan, whilst keeping an overview of current local issues and how they might help where necessary. A Priority Action Plan was drawn up to focus initial direction and Flagship Projects identified to raise the profile of the SKACIC.
SKACIC Objects
The Company’s object is to carry on activities which benefit the community and in particular (without limitation) to co-ordinate and lead the community in social and economic regeneration in South Kerrier by all or any of the following means:
- To develop and support projects which arise from community plans, other consultation processes or from community groups.
- To deliver and support services and projects of community benefit which may involve working in partnerships or lobbying agencies or organisations.
- To make surplus funds available for development of community projects within the area of benefit.
